Treatment

The treatment that we provide is private, residential treatment that lasts, typically, between 4 and 6 weeks.

You will need to be able to fund treatment yourself (or through your health insurance) as this is not an NHS service. You should expect to pay in the region of £320 a day for residential addiction treatment. This will cover the cost of accommodation, food and drinks, all treatment, 24 hour care and support. We also offer services, at a higher cost, that are structured in a similar way to a boutique hotel – with chauffeurs, private chefs and spa facilities. It’s just a matter of personal choice as to which you would prefer.

We are unable to refer you into NHS or charitable services. If this is what you are seeking, our advice is to contact your GP, who will be able to advise you as to services available locally.

Studies and experience have shown that the optimum period of time in treatment is 6 weeks.  However, we also offer access to an intensive 4 week programme, which has been specifically tailored for those who are, for instance, running businesses or maintaining high profile careers – providing a  highly individualised and focussed programme to gain maximum results in the shortest time possible, whilst giving flexibility to continue to support external responsibilities.

Alcohol Addiction Treatment

Treatment for alcohol addiction is offered at a wide range of clinics across the UK. Depending on your individual circumstances, we’ll be able to make recommendations on the best option for you. Treatment usually starts with a detox – a process that is managed by our medical team, usually with medication to minimise any symptoms, in a gentle and controlled way. During this time, you will probably rest, eat healthily and take some time out to recover. After a few days, you should feel able to participate in the treatment programme. This usually involves sessions of psychotherapy which takes place in groups and individually, one to one. You may also participate in art therapy, equine assisted psychotherapy, mood management, or any one of a host of treatment modalities that are individually tailored to offer the best outcome for you.

You will learn about yourself, what drives your addiction, and learn tools to remain abstinent. You’ll be supported in a friendly, nurturing, caring environment of people who understand exactly what you are going through…and how to help you transform your life for the future that you really want. Programmes normally take between 4 and 6 weeks – although different lengths of treatment are available for different circumstances.

Drug Addiction

Drug addiction treatment covers a wide range of different substances. Many people associate drug addiction with illicit substances, such as Heroin, Cocaine, Cannabis or other ‘street’ drugs and, certainly, many people enter treatment to recover from the effects of these illicit drug addictions.

However, an increasing number of people are also seeking treatment for other substances – drugs and medications that could largely be described as prescription medications or pharmaceuticals, that may or may not have been prescribed for the individual. These include opiates, such as Codeine and Morphine; and Benzodiazepines, such as Diazepam and Temazepam – as well as a number of other tranquillisers, sedatives, sleeping pills, pain killers and anti-depressants.

Often, people can be taking combinations of substances – such as alcohol and drugs – and these can be treated together at the clinic. Withdrawal is managed slowly and gently, under medical supervision and usually with the support of medication to minimise any symptoms of withdrawal. Following detox, the programme commences and usually includes a range of psychotherapy techniques to support and maintain recovery.

Gambling Addiction

Gambling addiction does not harm the person physically – it’s not a substance, so people sometimes struggle to understand it as an addiction. However, gambling, uncontrolled and driven by a desire to chase the next ‘high’ of a win, the ongoing hope that the next gamble will be the ultimate, has the capacity to destroy families, businesses, friendships, relationships and lives. Before you even realise it, thousands, tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands, of pounds have simply disappeared. Houses are mortgaged, inheritances gone, loans and credit cards are maxed out. But the gambling addict will still be unable to stop. The number of people receiving treatment for their gambling addiction is increasing. Online access to ‘virtual’ gambling has seen a sharp rise in ‘opportunities’ to continue to gamble, regardless of place, situation or time of day or night. Treatment for gambling addiction focusses on the source of this need to gamble. It addresses the root cause and helps the addicted person to understand the process and recover. Recovery from a gambling addiction is life transforming and we have specialist clinics that offer support. Call us now and we can help you to understand the nature of gambling addiction so that you can make an informed decision as to your next step.

Internet Addiction

The ‘information’ age has expanded our world and our opportunities – it’s broken down barriers and boundaries and improved accessibility to everything from education to commerce.

However, there is always a social cost to any new revolution. The internet has brought with it a wide range of interactivity that is impacting more and more people. Social media offers ‘virtual’ relationships and ‘rewards’ that can drive individuals to seek more and more online approval. The psychological impact of responding to the social media ‘bleep’ of a new message or affirmation is driving some users to spend vast quantities of time online – at the expense of families, work life and real world socialising.

Addressing the psychological process that is driving the individual to sacrifice real life for a virtual existence is key to rebuilding broken relationships and reintroducing a healthy life balance.

Trauma and Stress

PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), stress, workplace burnout, anxiety and depression can all be addressed within residential treatment. The serenity of the environment is just part of the process. Highly qualified counsellers work to reach the root causes – often spanning many years of stress or trauma – to enable the individual to process the information and learn to engage healthy responses to traumatic events.

Sometimes this is verbal – such as in talking therapies – sometimes, this is non-verbal, as demonstrated with art therapy and equine assisted psychotherapy – an extraordinary process in which emotions are often ‘unlocked’ by interaction with, and observation of, therapeutic horses. Many psychological modalities are available – including EMDR (a process that minimises disturbing memories) and CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) – all designed to encourage the mind to process information in a more positive way.

Results with trauma and PTSD sufferers, including those from the armed forces, have been remarkable and life changing.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can be the result of complex issues – that may or may not have anything to do with body image. Stress, anxiety, trauma, obsessive behaviour, substance misuse or any number of other factors could lead to an eating disorder.

The most common eating disorders are:

Anorexia nervosa – where the sufferer eats tiny amounts of food, being almost on a starvation diet, and/or exercises excessively.

Bulimia – where the sufferer eats, but then tries to control their intake by making themselves vomit or by using laxatives.

Binge eating – where the sufferer is driven to eat excessively, beyond physical need or hunger

Eating disorders may also occur with other presenting conditions – and will be treated at the same time. Our clinics are extremely sensitive to dietary needs and work with the sufferer to explore the root cause of the condition, whilst developing healthy, positive responses to food.
